Biotic Live: A Successful First Edition Exploring the Power of Probiotic Yeasts

Gnosis by Lesaffre recently hosted the first edition of Biotic Live, a unique event dedicated to exploring the potential of probiotic yeasts. This live session brought together leading experts to present the latest scientific insights and real-world applications of live yeasts in human health.

From Fermentation to Function: Unleashing the Power of Live Yeasts

Kimmo Makinen, Head of Scientific Affairs at Gnosis, introduced the audience to the human mycobiome — the fungal part of our microbiota. He explained which yeasts live in our bodies and how they function in the gut ecosystem.

Makinen also highlighted the key benefits of probiotic yeasts, including their natural robustness, resistance to stomach acidity, and compatibility with antibiotic treatments, making them valuable tools for maintaining digestive health.

From Lab to Real Life: Bridging Science and Patient Care

Professor Pierre Desreumaux, a renowned gastroenterologist at Lille University Hospital (France), shared his clinical expertise on integrating live yeasts in patient care. Reputed for his work in digestive and inflammatory diseases, Professor Desreumaux presented compelling evidence on the use of the specific yeast strain Saccharomyces cerevisiae CNCM I-3856 (ibSium®), particularly for individuals suffering from Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). His talk highlighted how scientific discoveries are translated into meaningful health outcomes through real-life case studies and clinical trials.

From Gut to Women’s Health: Opening New Horizons for Biotic Yeasts

Florian Mourey, Substantiation Science Team Leader at Gnosis, concluded the event with an inspiring look at the evolving landscape of probiotic applications. He presented key clinical trial data on S. cerevisiae CNCM I-3856 (Quatreflora™) for vaginal health and explored how biotic yeasts are opening promising avenues in women’s health, particularly in intimate care.
