Millions of children worldwide suffer from diarrhea every year and are at risk of dehydration.
Oral rehydration solution is central in the World Health Organization’s guidelines on the management of acute diarrhea in children. Nevertheless, oral rehydration has no effect on the duration of diarrhea, prompting a growing interest in adjunctive solution to limit the burden of the disease.
Consistent evidences have shown the potential effect of some specific probiotic strain, such as Saccharomyces cerevisiae var. Boulardii (S.boulardii), in promoting recovery from acute diarrhea. S.boulardii is today one of the most documented nutritional interventions in reducing diarrhea duration in adults and children.
The issue of our new Science UP is dedicated to assess the safety and efficacy of our probiotic yeast strain S.boulardii CNCM I-3799 in the management of acute diarrhea in children. This study :
- Demonstrates the beneficial effect of boulardii CNCM I-3799 supplementation in reducing the duration and severity of diarrhea in infants and children.
- Confirms its consistency with the scientific literature on boulardii.
