Safety of S-Acetyl Glutathione confirmed for food and dietary supplements

    Comprehensive Safety Evaluation

Celebrating a new milestone: Safety assessment of S-Acetyl Glutathione for food and dietary supplement use has been published in the Food and Chemical Toxicology journal.

Gnosis by Lesaffre is proud to share excellent news about the safety of our Emothion® (S-Acetyl Glutathione) ingredient! A comprehensive safety assessment has been published in the prestigious Food and Chemical Toxicology journal, confirming the safety of Emothion® for use in foods and dietary supplements. This achievement underscores our unwavering commitment to quality and safety in all our product offerings.

Emothion® (S-Acetyl Glutathione) underwent a thorough safety assessment, including an invitro bacterial reverse mutation assay, an invitro micronucleus test, an acute oral toxicity study, and a 13-week repeated-dose toxicity study. These studies aimed to demonstrate the safety of oral exposure to S-Acetyl Glutathione.

Proven Safe for Use in Foods and Supplements

The results of the studies support the safety of S-Acetyl Glutathione as a food or dietary supplement ingredient. No genotoxic or mutagenic effects were found up to 2000 µg/mL, and there were no adverse reactions in the acute toxicity study (LD50 > 2000 mg/kg). The 13-week study confirmed that SAG was well-tolerated with no significant organ damage or alterations in physiological functions. The highest dose tested (1500 mg/kg/day) established the No Observed Adverse Effect Level (NOAEL), further confirming the safety of SAG.

    Transparent and Protected Innovation

The study was funded by Gnosis by Lesaffre and remains Lesaffre’s exclusive property. This achievement underscores our commitment to delivering safe, high-quality products that support health and well-being.
