In a recent study published in Cells, Dr. Andrea Fuso explores the potential of Vitamin K2, particularly menaquinone-7, in supporting neurological health. Through experimentation on neuroblastoma cells, the study reveals that K2 supplementation may mitigate neurodegeneration and neuroinflammation by modulating gene expression.
Specifically, Vitamin K2 reduces the expression of genes associated with neurodegeneration and neuroinflammation while promoting genes that protect against amyloid formation. Moreover, the study uncovers a correlation between DNA methylation patterns and the regulation of certain genes linked to neurological health.
This research adds to the growing body of evidence regarding the impact of natural compounds on brain function. Dr. Fuso’s prior work on S-Adenosyl-Methionine (SAMe) highlighted its role in cognitive decline, emphasizing the importance of methyl-donor availability in healthy aging.
